Haye-on-Wye

Haye-on-Wye was one of those places that had been planned for this trip from the beginning. How could book lovers NOT go to a town with 29 bookstores? Still, just as with Stratford-upon-Avon, I worried that the selection of bookstores would be overhyped and overpriced. And just as with Stratford-upon-Avon, this place surpassed its reputation and was a highlight of the trip.

Brilliant bookstores, great book selection...oh, and since this is the town's annual literary festival, they're serving lunch INSIDE the remains of Haye Castle...

First, some bookshops.

The owner of Boz Books was particularly cool and talk to us for a while about the book world and how he's seen it changing.

Lunch in Haye Castle.

Out in the courtyard, a Direwolf prowls...

Just walking around taking in more details of this gorgeous old castle.

Meanwhile the other Direwolf waits for his mate...

Enough food. MORE BOOKS!!!

These next few shots were taken inside Hay Cinema Books. Think of it as a slightly smaller Powells with older, cooler books.

Obligatory Casey shot.

Farewell Haye-on-Wye. We'll be back!
