Stonehenge is well known as a prehistoric monument. But Avebury, about half way between Hereford and Portsmouth, is a less famous monument that is Europe's largest neolithic stone circle. And you can go right up to the stones and TOUCH them.

I have a feeling that Stanton Drew stone circle, near Bath, is bigger, but Avebury is certainly one of the most impressive!
